SAIC volunteers are the heart and gees of our mission. Whether you’re braaing at a community event, helping a fellow Saffa settle in, or working behind the scenes, your contributions make a real difference. Volunteering isn’t just about giving back—it’s a chance to meet people, learn new skills, and be part of something bigger
At the South African Institute of Canada (SAIC), volunteers are more than just helpers—they are the lifeblood of our organization. Whether welcoming newcomers, organizing events, or providing vital support behind the scenes, our volunteers play a crucial role in building a strong, connected community.
We believe in the power of teamwork and shared purpose. Volunteering with SAIC isn’t just about giving your time; it’s about gaining new experiences, making lasting friendships, and knowing you’re making a meaningful impact on the lives of others.
We moved to Canada in 2024, so I know how tough starting fresh can be – especially not knowing anyone. Volunteering with SAIC helps me connect and support other South Africans just like me. I work in insurance, enjoy cooking, love a fornite session, and binge-worthy shows. But Vancouver’s beauty is turning this indoorsy foodie into a wannabe explorer!
I am originally from Centurion , Pretoria and have been living in Cochrane, Alberta for 3 years. I enjoy as much time as possible outdoors, running, hiking and camping. I am excited to be part of this project and love the new adventures that awaits us here in Canada.
Hi my name is Braam Geldenhuys, I am the document controller for SAIC. I was born in Pretoria but hail from Cape Town. I am married and have a beautiful wife, Helga and two amazing boys (Mini-Men) Daniel and Christian. We have been in Canada for just under three years now and we really hope that we can help other families adjust and feel welcome..
Khadeejah Ebrahim moved to Canada over three years ago and now lives in South Surrey with her husband and two wonderful daughters. With a background in legal and compliance within the banking and financial sectors, she supports SAIC by reviewing contracts and fostering community connections.
I am originally from Pietermaritzburg Kzn. I have been in Winnipeg for 4 years, not working. I have enjoyed assisting & volunteering for SAIC. It was interesting to note just how many SA owned businesses there are in Canada.
